REPORT TO THE PARISH COUNCIL – 7th November 2011
THE PARISH CHURCH OF SWAINSTHORPE ST. PETER
COMMUNITY FACILITY PROJECT
I shall be meeting the architect within the next few days to determine which of the builders, invited to quote for the tower works and the community facility works has put in the most competitive price. This will enable us to compare actual costs with the estimates we have prepared so far. As the same building company will undertake both the Tower Works and the Community Facility Works, we have to wait for final approval of the quotations from English Heritage who are the main grant providers for the Tower Works. We are expecting their approval in December.
We know that the estimated cost of phase 1 of the Community Facility Project is £76,750 and we also know that we have offers of grant aid amounting to £29,500 with a further £43,500 awaiting approval and we should know whether we have been successful with these outstanding applications by December.
If we are successful in raising all the funding necessary, work could start on both projects as early as May 2012 and it is expected that the Church will be closed from May until September 2012.
We have applied to the Diocesan Advisory Committee for a Certificate of Recommendation for the plans and specification for the Community Facility Works and if they raise no queries a Faculty for the work to proceed should be granted in January.
Village fundraising activities continue through the PIGs Group (the Project Ideas Group) with the Christmas Coffee Morning and Children’s Craft Event taking place in the Church on Saturday 17th December 10.30am to 12.30pm. A giant Christmas tree will be erected on the village green again this year and there will be Carols around the tree at 6pm. on Christmas Eve.
