REPORT TO THE PARISH COUNCIL – 16 MAY 2011
THE PARISH CHURCH OF SWAINSTHORPE ST. PETER
COMMUNITY FACILITY PROJECT
We have received an offer of a £10,000 grant towards the Community Facility Project from the Norfolk Rural Community Council. In addition, the Parish Council, the P.C.C. and the Swainsthorpe Community Charity Trust have set aside £9,000 taking the total money raised so far to £19,000. We should hear within the next couple of months whether we have been successful with our applications to four other grant aid providers in our bid to raise £50,000 for phase one.
Our village fundraising activities continue through the PIGs Group (the Project Ideas Group) to whom we owe a great debt of gratitude for all their hard work in organising and planning activities to raise money for the Community Facility Project.
Our priority is to bring mains water into the Church and provide a sink unit with an external soak away to help with basic catering at each event. Also included in phase one is the refurbishing of the nave which will see the pews replaced with stackable chairs to provide flexibility of space for community activities and worship. The radiant down heaters will be replaced with new more efficient models and we hope also to provide a good quality temporary outside portable toilet.
Phase two will see improvements to the car parking area and the upgrading of the path from the Church gate to the Church porch to a hard surface to allow for wheel chair access. This phase is subject to our raising the necessary funds.
Phase three, the extension to the Church to provide a community room with a kitchen and toilet remains our long term objective and is also subject to our raising the necessary funds.
The current difficult economic climate has not helped in our efforts to raise the necessary grant aid funding but we are making progress.
